Public Transport Fares and Tickets in Budapest

Public transport ticket prices go up every year in Budapest. These are the most important ticket types recommended for tourists.

Single ticket (230 HUF, 260 HUF if purchased from the driver on board the vehicle): valid on all public transport vehicles for one uninterrupted trip.

One-day travel card (1350 HUF): vaild on all public transport vehicles from 0:00 to 24:00 of the day indicated on the ticket for an unlimited number of trips.

3-day travel card (3100 HUF): vaild on all public transport vehicles from 0:00 to 24:00 of the second following day for an unlimited number of trips.

7-day travel-card (3400 HUF): vaild on all public transport vehicles from 0:00 to 24:00 of the sixth following day for an unlimited number of trips.

Block of 10 (2050 HUF) or 20 tickets (3900 HUF).

Trams No. 4 and 6 reconstruction in 2006

Trams No. 4 and 6, the busiest line in Europe: run along Grand Boulevard: this line is undergoing a major reconstruction in 2006: first the Blaha Lujza tér - Moszkva tér section will be rebuilt between 18th April-19th May 2006, then the Blaha Lujza tér Móricz Zsigmond körtér (tram6)/Lágymányosi lakótelep (tram 4) section between 22nd May-9th June. During the reconstruction buses with 4-6V signs carry passengers along Grand Boulevard. Try to avoid this line during rush hours until the reconstruction is over or take the metro.
