Festival of Folk Arts in the Buda Castle

The Royal Palace in Buda’s Castle District gives home to the Festival of Folk Arts (Mesterségek Ünnepe) for the 20th time. Several hundred craftsmen and women, woodcarvers, pottery makers, weavers, musical instrument makers, blacksmiths come together to introduce their unique and traditional skills and products.

This is a good opportunity to learn about Hungary’s rich folklore and authentic arts and crafts while watching the artists working. The products sold at the fair make excellent souvenirs from Hungary. You can even try making your own craftwork. On the stages dance ensembles, music bands will entertain the crowd.

The festival reaches its peak at St Stephen’s Day on 20th August when craftsmen will have their own parade and the “Blessing of the New Bread” ceremony will take place.

Concerts at the Sándor Palace in Castle District

Posted under Concerts

You can listen to marching music concerts in front of the 200-year old Sándor Palace in Castle District at 3 pm every Saturday and Sunday, from August till 24th September. The classicist building gave home to several Hungarian noblemen and prime ministers, like Count Vince Sándor , the Pallavicini family and Count Gyula Andrássy. It is now the residence of Hungary’s president.

The palace was demolished during the bombings in the World War II . The reconstructed building opened in 2002. Since then vistors have been allowed to see the historic rooms once a year, on the Days of Cultural Heritage (this year: 16-17th September), but due to the anniversary, people can view the exhibition introducing the original layout of the building, old photos, and the findings of archeological researches on the groundfloor every weekend, until the end of September.
